SIBU: Flood mitigation efforts here are actively underway, with additional projects currently in the planning phase, says Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said the Sarawak Government is carrying out a study to determine how best to maintain river depth as part of comprehensive strategies to reduce flooding and ensure long-term water supply sustainability.
“This is among the key focuses of the flood mitigation projects not only in Sibu but across the state,” he said during a Community Dinner held here on Friday.
Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Minister, noted his ministry’s role in securing energy and water resources – both crucial to the nation’s social and economic development.

He also reminded Sarawakians of the importance of preserving racial unity and harmony in the state, which he described as a fundamental pillar of stability and progress.
“Sarawak must continue to uphold this spirit of unity as it is a valuable asset in driving the state’s development,” he said.
Fadillah also expressed appreciation for the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, whom he credited for continuing the legacy of previous leaders in fighting for Sarawak’s rights and ensuring the growth of the state’s economy and revenue.
Commenting on the upcoming state election expected next year, he urged all involved not to become complacent, but to continue providing the best service to the people.
“Ensure that the people are given accurate information that the struggle of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) remains the best choice for Sarawak,” he stressed.
