MIRI: The flood situation in Song, Kapit and Kanowit remains under control, with no immediate need to deploy firefighters from other zones, according to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Jamri Masran.
Speaking on Monday (March 24) after distributing 300 packets of bubur lambuk to road users here, Jamri noted that Bomba has been closely monitoring the floods, especially since a potential second wave began on March 18.
“Recently, we have been focusing a lot on the floods. The situation in Zone Sibu, including Song and Kapit, is still manageable.
“For now, we have sufficient manpower and logistics in Sibu to handle incidents in Kanowit and Song.”
However, he stressed that if the floods worsen, as seen in Bintulu previously, personnel from other zones would be deployed to provide assistance.
Also present at the event held at the Miri Sentral Bomba station were Miri Zone 6 Bomba chief Ismaidi Ismail, Miri deputy mayor Ariffin Mohamad and Miri District deputy police chief Supt Nur Ashyikin Abdullah.
The distribution of bubur lambuk was part of a safety awareness campaign focusing on fire prevention and road safety.
“In addition to the bubur lambuk, we also distributed safety pamphlets with information on home and road safety,” Jamri added.
He also noted the importance of avoiding the “3L” – lupa, lalai, leka (forgetfulness, negligence and carelessness) – to prevent accidents at home and on the road.
“We urge motorists to check and service their vehicles before travelling back to their hometowns. Before leaving home, ensure that electrical appliances are switched off, power sockets are properly unplugged and all doors and windows are securely locked.”
