SERIAN: Two flooded sections of the Pan Borneo Highway between Kampung Ranchan and Kampung Hulu here have caused heavy traffic congestion.

Continuous rainfall over the past three days has led to rising floodwaters from Sungai Sadong, affecting several nearby villages.

A Sarawak Tribune survey at the scene found traffic backed up for approximately three kilometers. Despite the rain, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers were seen managing the traffic flow.

One enforcement officer reported that floodwaters reaching three feet had forced a two-way stretch near Kampung Hulu towards Serian to be reduced to a single operational lane.

Meanwhile, at the P-turn near Kampung Ranchan, vehicles traveling towards Sri Aman were required to share a single lane in both directions, as the route heading towards Serian remained heavily submerged.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is scheduled to visit the affected area, located between KM 187.000 and KM 187.700 of the Pan Borneo Highway.

According to the Public Works Department (PWD), the highway’s Serian-to-Sri Aman side remains passable for cars, while only the fast lane is accessible for vehicles traveling from Sri Aman to Serian.
