SHAH ALAM: A total of 230 pupils from 38 schools have been affected by the floods in Sabah so far, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said.
She said the ministry is considering implementing home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) if flood conditions do not improve ahead of the reopening of schools next week.
“At the moment, preparations are focused on cleaning up schools in readiness for the new school session next week.
“We are also looking at ways to ensure access to education in Sabah despite the unpredictable weather,” she told reporters after attending the Selangor-level Anti-Bullying Town Hall session here today.
Fadhlina stressed that while education remains a priority, the safety of pupils and educators comes first.
According to media reports, the flood situation in Sabah has worsened today, with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres rising to 3,134 from 916 families this morning, compared with 2,919 people from 814 families yesterday evening.
The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said all evacuees are currently housed at 27 relief centres across six districts, namely Beaufort, Membakut, Penampang, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang.
