KUCHING: The Civil Defence Force (APM) is actively monitoring flood-affected areas across Sarawak and has urged village residents to stay vigilant regarding changes in weather conditions.

An APM spokesperson said that this follows the heavy rainfall and king tide that have caused flooding in several regions, including Bintulu, Sibu, Kanowit, Selangau, Mukah, and Marudi.

“As of this (yesterday) afternoon, two temporary evacuation centres (Pusat Pemindahan Sementara, PPS) have been opened in Kanowit District, where 18 heads of households and 40 individuals have been relocated.

“APM continues to advise the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the situation evolves,” the statement said.

The people of Sarawak have also called on the state to prepare for the flood season, urging the government to ensure the availability of clean water, medicines, and canned food supplies.

“The heavy rains that began in Kelantan and Terengganu have now shifted eastward, causing flooding in Singapore and Johor as well,” they said in a Facebook statement.

Authorities, in collaboration with APM and other agencies, are working to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those affected, while urging residents to remain alert as the monsoon season progresses.
