PADAWAN: Floods caused by continuous downpour since Monday night (Feb 27) forced a family of four to be evacuated from their home in Kampung Benuk here this morning.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victims comprised an adult woman, a teenage boy, a little girl and a seven-month-old baby.

Water levels in Kampung Benuk had risen up to eight feet high at around 4 am, making the entrance route impassable.

Firemen from Siburan station and other rescue agencies had to use an alternative route to reach the victims.

The victims were later taken to a relative’s house for temporary shelter.

The firemen also carried out flood monitoring at four villages in the district, namely Kampung Punau, Kampung Sumur Bunuk, Kampung Sikog and Kampung Jambu.

All the villages were affected by mud floods and flash floods as a result of the overflowing river.

As at press time, no evacuation operation was carried out and the water levels are reported to have receded.
