PADAWAN: The late nurse Debra Moset, 40, one of five victims of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, was laid to rest at the Kampung Semadang cemetery at about 12.30 pm today (Sept 14).
A sombre atmosphere surrounded the funeral as family members, relatives and members of the public gathered to pay their final respects before her remains were brought from the family home to St Patrick’s Church, Semadang, for prayers.
Following the church service, Debra’s remains were taken to the Kampung Semadang cemetery for burial.
She leaves behind her husband, John Then Hua, 44, and their two children, Euodia Then Suling, 15, and Eugene Then Kuling, 12.
Debra had served as a nurse in Miri for more than 10 years, with her passing deeply felt by her family, friends, colleagues and those who knew her.
Her remains were flown from Miri yesterday (Sept 13), arriving at Kuching International Airport at about 11.47 am before being taken to the family home in Kampung Semadang for the final respects.
Deputy Transport Minister and Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and National Dayak Bidayuh Association president Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik were present to receive her remains.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Deputy Transport Minister (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep also paid their respects.
Debra was among five people killed when a BO-105 helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) at about 3.21 pm on Sept 8.
The other victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurse Jessie Paya Jok, 44.
