KUCHING: Foodpanda Malaysia has partnered with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) to roll out ‘From Ride to Retire’ in Sarawak, aimed at strengthening retirement and financial literacy among gig workers.
Under the initiative, 400 top-performing foodpanda delivery partners across Sarawak will receive structured training on retirement planning and savings, marking the first state-level programme of its kind for delivery riders.
Foodpanda Malaysia director of Operations, Shubham Saran said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to supporting delivery partners beyond immediate earning opportunities.
“Our delivery partners are integral to our ecosystem, and caring for them means looking beyond the present.
“From Ride to Retire is about making long-term financial preparedness achievable and relevant to their daily realities,” he said.
The programme, conducted in collaboration with the EPF Sarawak Region, provides, for the first time, direct access to expert advice on savings and wealth management for delivery partners in the state.
Training sessions led by EPF regional officers will be held in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri from Feb 9 to Feb 13, focusing on practical topics such as voluntary EPF contributions, the long-term benefits of retirement savings and building sustainable saving habits.
The launch was marked by a signing ceremony between EPF Sarawak Region and foodpanda at EPF Kuching headquarters along Jalan Tun Jugah Flyover.
The EPF Sarawak regional director, Aminuddin Abdul Aziz, said informal workers remain a key focus as EPF works to widen access to retirement savings.
“We encourage delivery partners to start saving for retirement in a structured way, which they can do seamlessly through i-Saraan.
“Even small but consistent contributions can help build long-term financial security,” he added.
Beyond financial education, the programme also serves as a platform for engagement between foodpanda and its delivery partners through networking, briefings and appreciation activities, particularly in areas with limited physical touchpoints.
Following the Sarawak rollout, foodpanda plans to expand ‘From Ride to Retire’ to Sabah and other cities across East Malaysia.
