SIBU: Police have arrested an Indonesian couple in connection with the suspected murder of a fellow countryman, whose body was found in a farm hut yesterday (June 23).
The victim, believed to be in his 30s and without valid travel documents, was discovered lying in a pool of blood at around 5.17 pm along Jalan Rantau Panjang.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that they received a report from a member of the public after coming across the deceased.
“Acting on information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested an Indonesian man and woman, both in their 30s and also without valid travel documents, by the roadside at Jalan Teku-Pasai Siong around 9.50pm the same day.
“Several items believed to be linked to the case were also seized during the arrest,” he said.
Both suspects are being remanded for seven days until July 1 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty, upon conviction.
Zulkipli added that the motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and urged the public not to speculate on the case to avoid jeopardising the investigation.
“Anyone with information regarding the case, is encouraged to contact investigating officer ASP Mingat Baik at 019-8867978 or the nearest police station,” he said.
