KUCHING: A scavenging truck was seized after it was found to be driven by a foreign national during a road enforcement operation carried out by the Road Transport Department (RTD) in Kuching and Kota Samarahan yesterday (Feb 5).
The operation, conducted under ‘Ops Pemandu Warga Asing (PEWA)’ and ‘Ops Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan’, was aimed at ensuring compliance with road transport laws involving commercial vehicles.
Inspections revealed that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence or vocational licence.
Further checks also found that the vehicle’s road tax and insurance had expired, constituting serious offences under existing regulations.
The department reminded owners and operators of commercial vehicles to ensure all documentation remains valid and that only qualified and licensed drivers are allowed to operate such vehicles.
Failure to comply with the regulations will result in strict enforcement action without compromise, it said.
