BAU: A foreign man believed to be without valid travel documents was arrested after causing a disturbance in Kampung Opar here on Saturday (Apr 4).
Bau police chief Act Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspect, in his 30s, was detained after he was believed to be drunk and behaving aggressively, causing fear among villagers.
He said members of the public had assisted in restraining the man before alerting the police.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect claimed to be an Indonesian national but failed to produce any valid identification or travel documents.
“He was subsequently detained for further action under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement.
The suspect was also taken to Bau Hospital for treatment after sustaining minor facial injuries, believed to have occurred during a struggle while being restrained.
The case is under investigation, and police are in the process of obtaining verification from the Immigration Department.
