Foreign passenger killed, driver seriously injured in Hilux crash

BINTULU: A foreign man was killed while his driver was severely injured after their pick-up truck skidded and crashed along the Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Samalaju station were dispatched to the scene, about 13 kilometres away, following an emergency call at 1:59 pm.

Upon arrival, they found the Toyota Hilux overturned at the roadside with one trapped in the front passenger seat, and extrication works were carried out using rescue tools.

The seriously injured driver is handed over to paramedics to be taken to Bintulu Hospital for further medical treatment.

The victim, identified as Ikhsan from Indonesia, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His body was handed over to Batu Niah police for further action.

Meanwhile, the driver, who is also an Indonesian, sustained severe injuries after he was ejected from the vehicle in the accident.

He received preliminary treatment on-site before being rushed to Bintulu Hospital for further medical attention.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 4:04 pm.
