MUKAH: A Sri Lankan tugboat worker was found drowned in Batang Mukah yesterday morning.

Mukah District Police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau said the body of Peshala Ishan, 25, was found floating in the river in front of Mukah Wet Market by a member of public at around 7.53am.

He said prior to the incident, the victim was staying with his companion on the tug boat which berthed at another wharf near the market.

“According to his friends, the victim went to town last night, but they were unsure when he left the tugboat. They also said the victim will be going back to his hometown next week to get married,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said the victim was believed to have fallen into the river and drowned and police did not find any injury on the body.

Jimmy said the case was temporarily classified as sudden death and the body was taken to Mukah Hospital for a post mortem.
