LUBOK ANTU: Police arrested an Indonesian man on suspicion of smuggling controlled goods worth RM1,920 out of the state yesterday (Jan 16).
Lubok Antu police chief DSP Victor Ripon said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Lejang/Rantau’.
At around 3.45 pm, the team spotted a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in a suspicious condition along Jalan Entugam-Batu Kaya, about 4km from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
The vehicle driven by the 39-year-old suspect, was then detained for inspection.
“It led to the discovery of 107 packs of sugar, 36 packs of Milo, 32 packets of sausages, 96 tins of sweetened creamer, a box of frozen chicken feet, a box of frozen mackerel and a bag of rice.
“All the items estimated to be worth RM1,920 were confiscated and the suspect was arrested for further investigation,” he said.
Victor said the case has been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Sri Aman.
The case is being investigated under Section 20 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
