KUCHING: An elderly foreign man died from injuries, while his wife sustained severe injuries following a car crash along Jalan Kulas yesterday (Dec 17).
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident happened at around 12.30 pm when the Perodua Axia, driven by the victims, was heading towards the Satok traffic light intersection from the Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakop Bridge.
“Investigations found that the car swerved out of control and rammed into a lamp post and a tree at the middle of the road divider.
“As a result, the driver and his wife – both foreigners in their 70s – were rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for immediate treatment.
“However, the driver was pronounced dead by medical officers at 1.43 pm, while his wife is still receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Mohd Farhan urged those with information on the accident to contact traffic investigation officer Insp Shazwina Alfera Ah Yit @ Suaip at 016-7433078, 082-259900 or the nearest police station.
He advised road users to drive cautiously especially during the ongoing rainy season and adhere to the traffic laws.
