KUCHING: Four foreigners attempting to evade immigration officers were found hiding in unlikely places during a raid that saw over 40 foreigners detained across Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
One was found squeezed behind a large water tank, two others were discovered in a makeshift shelter, while another tried to blend into the surrounding bushes.
The four were among 42 foreigners detained after immigration officers inspected 45 people at three locations during an overnight enforcement operation.
Acting on public complaints, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division conducted the operation from 10pm on Aug 10 to 3am the following day (Aug 11).
Shared accommodation and rented rooms around Jalan Merdang Limau in Kota Samarahan and Batu 6, Jalan Penrissen were the targeted locations of undocumented migrants.
Those detained were suspected of committing offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
The Sarawak Immigration Department said enforcement operations would continue from time to time based on intelligence and information received from the public.
Members of the public are encouraged to report information on suspected immigration offences to assist enforcement efforts.
