Foreigners nabbed for suspected RM5,000 meth possession

SIBU: Narcotics police have arrested two foreigners for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine worth RM5,000 on Saturday.

The arrest was made at around 1 pm behind a petrol station along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman 2 here.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said a 32-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal activities.

“Further inspections led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing suspected methamphetamine.

“The drugs weighed 50.7g and have a street value of RM5,000,” he said.

Both suspects tested negative for drugs and had no prior records.

Zulkipli added that the suspects are being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, upon conviction.

He assured that the police, through the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), will continue to intensify operations to curb drug distribution and abuse activities.
