SIMUNJAN: Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), in collaboration with Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (Cahya Mata), has successfully planted a total of 7,500 high-value indigenous saplings at Sabal Forest Reserve this year.
The latest programme, held today, contributed 2,500 saplings, including engkabang, selangan, meranti and kapur.
According to the statement issued by FDS today, a total of 80 participants joined the programme, including staff from FDS and Cahya Mata, lecturers and students from UNITAR College Kuching, as well as members of the local community.
“Their involvement reflected a shared responsibility in advancing forest restoration efforts,” it added.

This was the third joint tree-planting initiative between FDS and CMS in 2025, underscoring the strong and sustained commitment of both parties towards biodiversity enrichment, forest landscape restoration, and climate change mitigation in Sarawak.
“This collaboration also shows the vital role of the private sector in advancing Sarawak’s forest landscape restoration agenda,” it said.
The initiative forms part of the ‘Greening Sarawak’ Campaign, through which FDS continues to welcome partnerships with all sectors in strengthening the State’s forest landscape restoration initiatives.
