KUCHING: Form Six students have been encouraged to explore careers in Allied Health Professions (AHP) as an alternative pathway into the healthcare sector.
Head of Allied Health Professions (Sarawak branch), Lilis Suriani Razali, said students should take opportunities such as the 2026 Allied Health Professions Education and Career Exhibition to gain a better understanding of the study and career options available.
“The aim of this exhibition is to introduce AHP professions beyond the more familiar roles of doctors, nurses and assistant medical officers,” she said in her speech at the exhibition held at ILKKM Kota Sentosa here today.
Lilis said the exposure could help students make more informed decisions when planning their education and future careers.
She encouraged students, particularly those in Forms Four to Six, not to simply visit the exhibition, but to actively engage with exhibitors, ask questions and participate in practical activities.
She said ILKKM offered various training programmes, including paramedical courses as well as certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programmes, providing different pathways into healthcare careers.
“Students interested in pursuing training at ILKKM can apply through the Public Service Commission of Malaysia (SPA), with successful applicants who meet the requirements proceeding to an interview,” she added.
Lilis said understanding their interests, abilities and available career pathways was important, particularly as students and parents considered prospects for stable employment when choosing a field of study.
She hoped efforts to introduce AHP to the younger generation would encourage more students to pursue the field and support future staffing needs in the healthcare sector.
The programme also gave students an opportunity to experience the learning environment at ILKKM Kota Sentosa and gain a clearer picture of studying in allied health fields.
