KUCHING: Datuk Polit Hamzah, former executive director of Sarawak Press Sdn Bhd and ex-chairman of the Sarawak Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), passed away early this morning.
He was 76.
News of his passing was confirmed by his family. He died at 4.20 am at his residence in Lorong Laksamana Cheng Ho 2A1, here.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, who is Polit’s nephew, said his uncle will be laid to rest at the Samariang Islamic Cemetery.
At the time of his passing, he served as the vice chairman of the Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association (SOPPOA). He also held directorships at Kub Sepadu Sdn Bhd and Rajah Mutiara Sdn Bhd, both involved in oil palm cultivation and milling.
Polit’s career began at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, where he held various technical and management positions. He later served as general manager at the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
His extensive career also included roles as executive director at Sarawak Plantation Berhad, independent non-executive director at Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd, and director at Lembaga Pergalakan Pelancongan.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Geology from the University of Malaya in 1975.
