KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today (Feb 12) sentenced a man to a one-month prison term, in default of a RM1,000 fine, for stealing 150 aluminium poles belonging to an organiser and event management company in Demak Laut in November last year.
Muhammad Hanafi Hazmi, 34, a former employee of the company, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, for committing the offence with two accomplices who are still at large.
Hanafi and his accomplices allegedly committed the offence at the company’s premises in Jalan Bako, Demak Laut, at 9.40 am on Nov 6, 2025.
The court ordered that he serves one month in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the facts of the case, on Nov 21, 2025, at about 3.00 pm, a company employee inspected the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and discovered that Hanafi and two unidentified accomplices had stolen company property.
The stolen items comprised 150 aluminium poles and two mini sofas.
A police report was lodged immediately, leading to Hanafi’s arrest on Nov 25, 2025, at the upper floor of the company’s office.
Investigations revealed that Hanafi and his two accomplices, who remain at large, had stolen items from the company’s premises.
The prosecution was conducted by Investigation Officer, Inspector Nurshafiqa Nyaie Illin, while Hanafi was unrepresented.
