PETALING JAYA: A total of 17 leaders from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), including four Members of Parliament, two state assemblymen and 10 division chiefs, have been sacked from the party.
According to a report by Free Malaysia Today (FMT), among those dismissed are Opposition Leader and Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin, Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob, Padang Rengas MP Azahari Hasan and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who is also a member of the party’s Supreme Council and had been suspended since October.
Also sacked were Supreme Council members Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, the four-term Sungai Manik assemblyman, and Dr Yadzil Yaakub, who serves as the Melaka opposition leader.
FMT reported that the party had also terminated the memberships of 10 division chiefs: Zulkifli Bujang (Johor Bahru), Yunus Nurdin (Libaran), Yunus Yusop (Tapah), Kamaruddin Majid (Teluk Intan), Hassuandi Hamzah (Larut), Ahmad Ishak (Gopeng), Abdul Aziz Ismail (Dungun), Ahmad Nasir Mid (Selayang), Shafiq Halim (Hulu Langat) and Ramlan Meon (Tangga Batu).
In addition, Nabila Norsahar, head of Sabah Bersatu’s young women’s wing, was also removed from the party.
The report stated that those affected were alleged to have breached provisions of the party’s constitution, which require members to comply with its constitution, code of ethics and code of conduct.
Under Bersatu’s constitution, members who have been sacked may submit an appeal within 14 days.
The development comes amid ongoing internal tensions within the party, reportedly linked to a leadership dispute involving party president Muhyiddin Yassin and Hamzah, who previously served as deputy president.
