“The best part of memories is making them together.” -Unknown
A DAY before the wedding, we all went sightseeing to Sentosa Island. The island has many tourist attractions, including the theme park Universal Studios Singapore, the marine-life attraction S.E.A. Aquarium, Palawan Beach, historical Fort Siloso, the Skyline Luge Sentosa, and the Wings of Time water and light show.
Only Ah Hong, her husband-to-be (Ah Hwei), my son and his family, visited the theme park Universal Studios Singapore because my elder grandson wanted to ride the roller coaster and see the dinosaurs.
The rest of us, including Ah Hong’s dad, who had joined us by then, just walked from one end of a long path to the other end. Because it was a hot day, we rested on the benches many times before continuing the long walk.
We took the Sentosa Express monorail to reach Sentosa Island and return to the mainland. The ride from Sentosa Island ended at the VivoCity (Harbour Front) area.
At VivoCity, we had lunch at one of the food stalls there. Both my younger sister and I enjoyed the delicious lamb rendang and chicken curry at a Malay stall there.
That night, Ah Hong, Ah Hwei, Ah Tung and her husband slept late, decorating the venue for next day’s wedding.
On the wedding day, my family members, including Ah Hong’s parents, met Ah Hwei’s family members, including his grandmother, parents, siblings, uncles and aunts for the first time.
After the bride and bridegroom were formally married and had exchanged rings, there was a buffet with food prepared by a restaurant.
After the bride and bridegroom took pictures with family members from both sides, it was time to say goodbye.
In the evening, our tour of Singapore continued with a visit to Merlion Park, a famous Singapore landmark and a major tourist attraction located at One Fullerton, Singapore, near the Central Business District (CBD).

At Merlion Park, we took beautiful pictures with the statue of the Merlion, which was half lion, half fish, symbolising Singapore’s origin. We also posed in front of several beautiful murals near Merlion Park, including one depicting the General Post Office.
I think those pictures were among the best that we took in the republic. Our smiles and the sceneries were so beautiful.
After Merlion Park, we travelled to Bugis Street where we bought fresh fruits and souvenirs in the form of T-shirts and bags with the word ‘Singapore’ on them.
All too soon, it was time to say goodbye to Bugis Street because the shopkeepers were closing their shops and stalls. We spent the night eating the different types of fresh fruits we bought.
The next morning, we left Singapore to continue our holiday in Johore Bahru.
Memories of the recent trip to Singapore will remain with me for a long, long time because of Ah Hong’s marriage and the fun and laughter I enjoyed with all my family members.
