SIBU: Four people, including two children, were injured after a Perodua Axia was involved in a single-vehicle accident along the Pan Borneo Highway near Batu 17 here this afternoon.
The accident occurred near Tokong Yu Lung San Tian En, along the Sibu-Bintulu stretch of the highway.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at about 1.43 pm and dispatched a team from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the Perodua Axia had crashed into a road divider.
The driver, identified as Jeffery Mustafa, 54, suffered a fracture to his right arm, while his wife, Ambaligh, 54, sustained minor injuries.
Two children who were travelling in the vehicle were also injured.
A 14-year-old girl, Raasyidah Jeffry, suffered a leg injury after becoming trapped in the passenger area, while her 11-year-old sister, Azizah Jeffry, sustained minor injuries.
Firefighters carried out rescue operations by cutting the rear left door of the vehicle to free the trapped teenager. She was successfully extricated and handed over to medical personnel.
All injured victims were subsequently taken for medical treatment by the Health Ministry.
The operation was brought under control at about 2.10 pm and concluded shortly after, with police, medical personnel and the Civil Defence Force also present at the scene.
