BINTULU: A family of four was left with nothing but the clothes on their backs after their wooden house at Kampung Wawasan Rajawali, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, was destroyed by fire last night (Oct 20).
The incident happened at around 7.20 pm and no injuries were reported as the occupants were not at home during the blaze.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Samalaju station were dispatched to the scene, about 31km away, following a distress call.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the house was beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from the fire engine.
The team had difficulties during extinguishing efforts as there were no nearby fire hydrants or open water sources.
The flames were brought under control at 8.10 pm, followed by overhaul works to ensure no possible reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 8.50 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
