MERADONG: Four men who claimed they were only gambling to “kill time” found themselves in police custody during a raid at Simpang KJD, Bintangor yesterday (Nov 5).

The operation was conducted at around 3 pm by the district’s Task Force team on a premises suspected of hosting illegal gambling activities.

Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the team managed to seize playing cards and cash from the group.

“All the local suspects, aged between 49 and 70, together with the seized items were taken to Bintangor police station for further action.

“Background checks found that one of them had previously been arrested for a similar offence.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspects admitted that they were gambling at the premises to simply pass the time,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

Tansli urged the public not to get involved in illegal gambling and to report any related activities to the police at 084-693222.
