SERIAN: Police arrested four local men suspected of cattle theft and possession of a homemade firearm during an operation at a SALCRA oil palm plantation in Melikin here last Thursday.
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspects, aged between 21 and 39, were detained by a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) team.
He said police also seized a live cow, a homemade shotgun with one round of ammunition, and a Proton Wira Aeroback vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.
“Urine tests found three of the suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks revealed two of the suspects had five and one previous records related to drug and property offences,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of a firearm.
All suspects are currently remanded at the Serian police station to assist in investigations.
