Four men nabbed on suspicion of TM cable theft

The police detain four local men suspected of stealing Telekom Malaysia cables in Miri.

MIRI: Four men have been arrested in connection with the theft of Telekom Malaysia (TM) cables along Jalan Setia Raja on Thursday morning.

According to Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Abdullah, the case was reported at about 11:00 am on October 17 by a TM technician.

Acting on the report, the police moved quickly and detained four local men, aged 31 to 36, later on the same day.

Police also recovered cables, a chain block, cable-cutting tools, and the suspects’ vehicle, all believed to have been used in the theft.

Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

The suspects were remanded on Friday to assist police investigations.

“All four suspects tested positive for drugs during urine screening,” he said in a statement.
