Four rabies-positive cases detected in Kuching and Bau

KUCHING: Four rabies-positive cases have been detected in Kuching and Bau between March 3 and March 7, according to a statement from Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

The cases involved three stray dogs and one free-roaming pet dog, all of which were reported as bite cases.

The first case was detected at Jalan Bau Lama, Pekan Paku, Bau, involving a stray dog.

Another stray dog tested positive at Kampung Nyabut, Trombol, Telaga Air here.

The third case was recorded at Kampung Surih Stapok, Lorong Lima, off Jalan Batu Kawa, Kuching, where another stray dog was found to be infected.

Meanwhile, the fourth case involved a free-roaming pet dog at Lorong Satu, Pekan Paku, Bau.

Pet owners are advised to ensure their pets are vaccinated against rabies and kept within secured premises to prevent further transmission.

The public is encouraged to report any suspected rabid animal to the nearest veterinary office or local council.

Those who have been bitten or scratched by animals should seek immediate medical attention.
