JULAU: Four men endured a tense night in the wilderness after their boat was swept away by strong river currents during a fishing and camping trip near Rumah Magereta, Kampung Kerangan Buloh.
The incident happened at around 4 pm on Saturday (Aug 2) when the group set out to enjoy the river, only to find themselves stranded after their boat drifted far from its original location due to the forceful currents.
With poor phone coverage in the remote area, they were unable to call for help immediately. It was only the following morning (Aug 3), at around 6 am that one of them managed to contact a friend, who then mounted a rescue mission.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that information relayed from Bintangor fire station confirmed that all four men were successfully rescued by their friend. Their boat was later found near Batu Matop, Julau.
Fortunately, none of them sustained any injuries.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, some 48km away, but no official rescue operation was conducted. They instead went to the men’s residence at the government quarters along Jalan Julau to gather information.
The operation ended at 9.25 am once all details were obtained.
