KUCHING: Sarawak and France are exploring joint investment opportunities while strengthening strategic cooperation in several key sectors of mutual interest.

The matter was discussed during a courtesy call by the French Ambassador to Malaysia, Marc Abensour, on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex, Petra Jaya, today.

Among the sectors highlighted were Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the maritime and aviation industries, renewable energy, oil and gas covering upstream and downstream activities, as well as carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology.

These sectors are in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises sustainable economic growth, renewable energy development, and the expansion of the digital economy in Sarawak.

During the meeting, Abensour acknowledged Sarawak’s growing position as a preferred destination for high-technology and sustainable investments, supported by its abundant renewable energy resources and strong industrial infrastructure.

He also noted that Sarawak’s stable political environment provides confidence and long-term security for investors, while its strategic location on Borneo positions it as a gateway to the wider ASEAN market.
