MIRI: A free professional training programme designed to boost local workforce participation in the oil palm plantation industry has been launched through a strategic partnership between the Malaysian Commodity and Agricultural Institute (IMPAC), SD Guthrie, and Sarawak Skills.
The Harvesting Specialist Programme aims to equip Malaysian workers with essential skills and modern oil palm harvesting techniques while addressing the demand for skilled labour in the plantation sector and providing employment opportunities for rural and semi-urban communities.
Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the initiative serves as a catalyst for community development and economic empowerment.
“Through this programme, we aim to empower locals by equipping them with modern harvesting technologies and offering sustainable employment with competitive income.
“It’s a step forward in our efforts to uplift the socioeconomic status of our people,” he said.
The three-month training comes with a monthly allowance of RM1,200, free accommodation throughout the training period, and guaranteed job placement upon successful completion.
The programme is open to Malaysian men aged 18 and above in good physical health, with only 50 participants to be selected for this intake, divided into two groups of 25.
Walk-in interviews will be held on May 13 at the Sarawak Agriculture Vocational Training Institute (SAVTI), Jalan Kebuloh, Miri, from 9 am to 4 pm.
