KUCHING: A French delegation led by French Ambassador to Malaysia Marc Abensour is in Sarawak on a two-day mission to explore potential investment and collaboration opportunities across several strategic sectors.

The delegation included Military Attaché Stefan Stefancic, Deputy Economic Counsellor Bouthaina Harfi, head of Business France Jean-François Ambrosio, and Cultural Attaché Thierry d’Anna.

The delegation engaged with several Sarawak agencies and stakeholders to gain insights into the state’s investment landscape and development priorities.

Discussions centred on opportunities in aerospace, renewable energy, aviation manufacturing, oil and gas, and carbon capture technologies.

The delegation first visited the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), where they were received by chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain and general manager Rakayah Bujang.

They also held discussions with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), hosted by chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo and senior vice president Abang Arabi Abang Aimran.

The meeting explored opportunities in the oil and gas sector, including potential collaboration in upstream and downstream activities as well as carbon capture technologies.

The visit concluded at InvestSarawak, where chief executive officer Timothy Ong briefed the delegation on Sarawak’s economic direction.

Sarawak stakeholders also outlined the state’s development agenda under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises sustainable economic growth, renewable energy development and the expansion of the digital economy.

The discussions highlighted Sarawak’s growing position as a destination for sustainable and high-technology investments supported by its renewable energy resources, industrial infrastructure and pro-investment policies.
