SIBU: The roar of modified engines fell silent when a major traffic operation codenamed Ops Motosikal saw 61 motorcycles confiscated and 268 summonses issued.
From 9:00 pm on Saturday night until 8:00 am today, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division swooped down on Jalan Kong Yit Khim (Salim-Stabau), Sibu Jaya, to rid the roads of illegal street racing and ensure all motorists adhere to the traffic laws.
Sibu Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, said a total of 120 individuals (114 men and six women) and 92 motorcycles were inspected throughout the operation.
“Of the figure, 61 motorcycles were impounded under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications and sent for further inspection.
“In addition, the team issued 268 traffic summonses for a range of offences such as modified exhausts, unlicensed riding, vehicle alterations, and missing number plates and others,” he said.
Such an operation will be carried out from time to time to curb illegal street activities.
Following this, Zulkipli urged the public to drive and ride responsibly, avoid participating in illegal street activities, and refrain from modifying vehicles in ways that cause noise pollution.
