KUCHING: As Sarawak positions itself as a regional leader in climate action and green‑economy development, Fuller Academy is bringing its flagship ‘Mastering ESG: Building Strategic Roadmaps for Sustainability’ workshop to Kuching on September 10 at Hilton Hotel here.

The one‑day programme is designed to equip business leaders and managers with the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) competencies needed to align with the state’s ambitious Sustainability Blueprint 2030.

Bernadine Francis, sustainability strategist and lead facilitator of the workshop, said that Sarawak has set a clear direction with its Sustainability Blueprint 2030, and businesses must be ready to implement ESG practices that match this vision.

“Our training will help organisations identify ESG gaps, build actionable sustainability roadmaps and navigate the evolving regulatory landscape so that they can thrive in Sarawak’s emerging green economy,” she said in a statement on Thursday.

On May 29, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg launched Sarawak’s Sustainability Blueprint 2030, a comprehensive roadmap comprising 10 strategic thrusts and 111 action plans to accelerate the state’s transition to a low‑carbon, green economy.

The Premier noted that hydropower already provides 70 per cent of Sarawak’s energy mix, cutting grid carbon emissions by 72 per cent since 2010, and highlighted growing investments in hydrogen, carbon capture and renewable energy projects.

He also stressed that developing a green economy requires investing in human capital, urging stakeholders to train Sarawakians in ESG principles and sustainability leadership.

The workshop, which is 100 per cent HRD Corp claimable, offers participants a framework to craft ESG roadmaps aligned with global standards and Sarawak’s green‑economy goals and guidance on meeting new compliance requirements, including the Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Ordinance 2023 and other initiatives under the Sustainability Blueprint.

The workshop also offers case studies and hands‑on exercises drawn from renewable‑energy and low‑carbon projects currently underway in Sarawak and networking opportunities with peers and sustainability experts.

Meanwhile, Fuller Impact founder/CEO Wan Imran said that the Kuching session is timed to support the state’s push for sustainable development.

“Sarawak’s leaders have made it clear that ESG skills and sustainable practices are essential for future growth.

“By hosting this workshop here, we’re answering the Premier’s call to invest in human capital and helping local businesses contribute to the state’s green‑economy roadmap.”
