MUKAH: The housing loan scheme offered by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Sarawak should be fully utilised by longhouse residents, said its chairman Abdul Yakub Arbi.
He said the loan scheme offers two main categories.
“These include renovation works for existing longhouses and the construction of new longhouses.
“For renovations, the scheme provides loans of up to RM30,000, while for new constructions, the amount is RM50,000.
“Longhouse residents who wish to learn more about the scheme are encouraged to contact HDC for a better understanding of the terms and conditions,” he said during the Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak Festival for Mukah District held at Rumah Penghulu Thomas here recently.

In relation to this, Yakub, who is also Balingian assemblyman, expressed his pride in the spirit shown by the longhouse community in celebrating the Ngiling Bidai Festival.
He said that the community continuously strives to preserve and carry forward traditions and cultural practices such as this.
“A longhouse is not just a place to live, but a space to nurture and uphold our community’s customs and heritage.
“We must never forget our roots, and such values must be safeguarded,” he added.
