MIRI: A 61-year-old local man who manages an entertainment outlet in Miri has been fined RM1,000 by a Magistrates’ Court for operating beyond permitted hours, in breach of licensing regulations.
The man, who pleaded guilty, was charged under Section 24 of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000. The court ordered that he serve two months in prison should he fail to pay the fine.
The offence was detected during a routine inspection carried out by police officers in the early hours of Jan 29. Police found the premises, located at Pelita Commercial Centre, still operating at about 5.30am, well past the authorised closing time.
According to the prosecution, loud music was being played and could be clearly heard from outside the establishment at the time of the inspection, indicating a clear violation of licence conditions governing operating hours and noise control.
Police said enforcement operations targeting entertainment outlets across the district would continue to be intensified, stressing that there would be no compromise on compliance with existing laws and licence requirements.
They also reminded operators that adherence to stipulated operating hours is a key condition of their licences and a critical factor in maintaining public order.
