KUCHING: The future of Sarawak should not be measured merely by what it possesses today, but by what can be built through the wisdom and creativity of the next generation.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said human capital development has become the foundation and driving force behind the economy and the major transformations currently undertaken by the state government.

Sarawak is now on the brink of a major transformation, shifting from a resource-based economy to a high-value economy, driven by technology, innovation and human capital development.

“This direction aligns with the goals outlined under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises a balance between economic, social, and environmental progress.

“This is why human capital is no longer a secondary need; it has become the main engine of the state’s development. Institutions of higher learning such as i-CATS University College not only contribute to the education system but also to Sarawak’s long-term resilience,” he said.

He said this during the university’s 27th Convocation Ceremony held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here today.

Abang Johari, who is also the Chancellor of i-CATS University College, said that when graduates complete their studies, it is not merely about individual success but signifies the continuation of a well-planned vision.

“It is also a collective effort that began with past generations, carried forward by the present, and will be perfected by those of the future,” he said.

“This proves that Sarawak’s true success begins with minds ready to lead, not just through technology, but through people who possess strong values and a clear sense of direction.”
