KUCHING: Sarawak para swimming ace, Galang Jabai, is determined to maintain his outstanding form when he competes at the 22nd Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) 2026.

Despite anticipating a tough challenge at the biennial national games, which will be held in Selangor from September 5 to 14, the Julau-born swimmer remains confident of delivering another medal-winning performance.

The 40-year-old’s goal is not only to add to his personal medal tally but also to help the Sarawak Para SUKMA contingent retain its dominance by securing a record-extending 15th overall title.

“I am ready for the 22nd Para SUKMA Selangor 2026, with the mission of maintaining excellence in every event I compete in,” Galang told Sarawak Tribune.

He said preparations for himself and his teammates have been progressing smoothly according to schedule.

He hopes the hard work and training they have put in over the past months will translate into strong performances and more medals.

Galang was one of Sarawak’s standout athletes at Para SUKMA Sarawak 2024, where he collected an impressive six medals – four golds and two silvers.

His gold medals came in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 4x100m medley relay, and 4x100m mixed relay.

He also won silver in the 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley (IM).

Meanwhile, Galang admitted that this year’s edition could be his final appearance at the Para SUKMA should the current age limit of 40 remain in place for future editions.

“This will be my last Para SUKMA because by the next games, I will be over the age limit of 40,” he said.

Sarawak reclaimed the overall Para SUKMA title on home soil in 2024 after an outstanding campaign that yielded 82 gold, 53 silver, and 74 bronze medals.
