SARATOK: Two mothers were taken into custody for allegedly earning extra income by selling online gambling top-ups in town here yesterday (Sept 22).
The women, aged 25 and 22, were arrested separately by the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID) during ‘Ops Dadu’.
Both were detained for inspections while manning the counters of separate premises in Saratok town.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said police also seized two Redmi C1 phones, two boxes and an undisclosed amount of cash from the suspects.
“Initial investigations found that both women admitted to acting as agents selling online gambling top-ups as a source of side income.
“Both had allegedly been carrying out the activity for about a month, targeting customers around Saratok town,” he said.
Further checks found that the 25-year-old suspect is divorced and has five children. She also has two prior drug-related convictions in 2025.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old suspect is married, has one child and has no previous criminal record.
Mathew added that both suspects, who are unemployed, tested negative for drugs.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 for every gaming machine seized and imprisonment of up to five years, upon conviction.
