KUCHING: Kuching City FC head coach, Aidil Sharin Sahak credited discipline and tactical execution for the Cats’ 2-0 victory over Sabah FC in the Malaysia Super League Borneo Derby at the Sarawak State Stadium on Saturday (March 7).

Aidil said his players followed the game plan closely, applying early pressure that led to two first-half goals which ultimately proved decisive.

“I think we deserved the three points tonight. The boys were tremendous and followed the game plan very well.

“We knew that Sabah played a few days back in Perak and travelling here is a little bit tiring for them. So we tried to put pressure early and the game plan worked well,”he said after the match.

Aidil added that although Kuching City controlled much of the second half, there is still room for improvement in converting scoring opportunities.

“In the second half we controlled the game, but we still need to improve in converting the chances we create,” he said.

With the fasting month underway, Aidil also explained that squad management has become an important tactical consideration, particularly for players observing the fast.

“I can’t have four or five fasting players on the pitch at the same time because they will have less energy. So we manage that tactically,” he said.

Kuching City will now shift their focus to their next Malaysia Super League fixture away against Penang as the Cats look to maintain their momentum in the league.
