SAMARAHAN: The Gatorz Rugby Club from IPG Batu Lintang is aiming for a top eight finish at the TNC HEPA UNIMAS Rugby Championship, bringing determination and teamwork to the pitch.
The team enters the tournament with high hopes, focusing not only on competitive success but also on personal and professional growth.
“For many of the players, participation in rugby goes beyond the sport; it is a platform to nurture leadership, collaboration.
“They see themselves as future teachers who will inspire their students not only in academic pursuits but also through extracurricular activities and character building,” said the club in a statement today.
The statement pointed out that the experience gained through such competitions prepares future teachers at IPG Batu Lintang to foster a holistic approach to education, integrating sports, wellness and character development into their teaching philosophies.
“These athletes are eager to apply their teamwork skills and sportsmanship in classrooms, creating positive learning environments, and motivating students to achieve their best,” the statement read.
Looking ahead, the club aims to build on this experience to elevate its performance in future competitions, inspiring younger players, and contributing to the growth of rugby among future teachers, especially at Batu Lintang Teachers’ Training College.
The tournament, officially sanctioned by the Sarawak Rugby Union, runs from November 1 to 2, 2025, at the UNIMAS Synthetic Rugby Field, featuring 16 teams from across Sarawak.
