KUCHING: The Gawai Bazaar Sri Aman Carnival 2026 is poised to serve as a catalyst for local economic growth, in line with the state government’s push to strengthen tourism and rural entrepreneurship.

The matter was highlighted during a courtesy call by the carnival’s organising committee on Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Balai Ringin assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, at his office on Thursday.

The delegation, led by Temenggong Leonard Libau, sought the state leadership’s support and involvement in ensuring the success of the upcoming event.

During the meeting, Snowdan was also invited to officiate the closing ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in Simanggang, Sri Aman Division, in May.

The carnival is envisioned as a strategic platform to promote local culture and heritage, while at the same time driving economic activity through the participation of small and medium entrepreneurs as well as players in the creative industry.

It is expected to stimulate the local economy by creating business opportunities, boosting community income and expanding market access for local products to visitors from within and beyond the division.

Held in conjunction with the Gawai celebration, the carnival also aims to strengthen cultural identity while enhancing the appeal of domestic tourism in a sustainable manner.
