PADAWAN: The newly-opened Segu Bunuk Penrissen Association (PSPB) office is expected to play a key role in preparations for the upcoming Gawai Bisegu 2026 Parade, which is shaping up to be one of the community’s biggest cultural gatherings yet.
Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament Datuk Willie Mongin said the parade, scheduled for June 2, would not only celebrate Bidayuh culture but also showcase the hospitality, traditions and identity of the Bisegu community to visitors from within and outside Sarawak.
He said the programme had already drawn strong interest from invited guests, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and cultural enthusiasts.
“We have invited many friends from Semenanjung, outside Kuching and Sarawak, as well as NGOs to witness our parade,” he said when officiating at the opening of the new PSPB office behind the Kampung Segu Bunuk Multipurpose Hall here on Sunday.
According to him, 21 NGOs have so far confirmed participation in the parade, alongside invitations extended to 4×4 clubs and big bikers groups to further boost attendance.
Willie said preparations should focus on providing visitors with the best possible experience through cultural performances, music, food and community spirit.
“We have nothing else to showcase besides our hospitality, culture and traditions,” he said.
He also encouraged villagers to volunteer during the event to help ensure smooth arrangements for guests and participants.
Touching on cultural preservation, Willie expressed hopes of reviving the “Bidayuh Mystic” programme, which he described as one of the most successful cultural initiatives for the Bisegu community.
