BINTULU: Gawai Dayak is not merely a cultural celebration but also a symbol of unity and harmony among the various races and religions in Sarawak, and throughout Malaysia, says Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

In his speech during the Ngiling Bidai 2025 ‘Segulai Sejalai’ Dinner held here on Thursday, he described Gawai Dayak as a symbol of solidarity that should be preserved and celebrated together.

“We are very fortunate that in Sarawak, people of different ethnicities can sit together at the same event.

“We respect each other’s religions and cultures. This is our uniqueness,” he said.

He added that the Gawai celebration is not just an annual ritual but also a platform to strengthen the values of Malaysia MADANI, particularly by empowering the local economy and fostering solidarity between urban and rural communities.

“We also want the people to continue appreciating culture, live in peace and preserve the unity that forms the foundation of our state’s and nation’s strength,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu Member of Parliament, urged the public to be discerning when evaluating issues before sharing or speculating.

“There is so much misinformation nowadays. Don’t fall victim to emotions or sentiments. We must think rationally for the common good,” he added.

He also touched on development issues, acknowledging that several projects in remote areas remain unfinished.

However, he assured that efforts would continue in stages with the cooperation of all parties.

“I know there are shortcomings and some delays. But give us a chance. If there are any issues, contact me directly,” he said.
