KUCHING: The Gawai Dayak celebration offers a meaningful platform to highlight the rich culture, traditions and customs of the Dayak community.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas noted that with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders hosting the State-Level Gawai Dayak Open House last Sunday, the event also serves to unite people of all races under one roof.

He expressed pride in the presence of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, stating that their attendance reflects Sarawak’s spirit of unity among leaders and citizens of diverse backgrounds.

“That’s why we are very proud to host this event today (last Sunday).

“It allows us to show the rest of Malaysia the strength of our racial harmony and the richness of our cultural heritage, which contributes to the vibrant tapestry of Malaysian society,” he said.

Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, was speaking to the media after attending the event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on the first day of Gawai Dayak lst Sunday.

Earlier, both Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari joined the celebration, which was hosted by the Orang Ulu community.

The event drew about 3,000 attendees from various walks of life, adding to the festive atmosphere.
