Gawai-eve blaze tears through five homes, 21 made homeless

BINTULU: A devastating fire left 21 people homeless after five terrace houses at Kidurong MLNG Housing, Jalan Abang Usop, were completely engulfed on Gawai eve (May 31).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 11.43 pm incident as the residents managed to evacuate to safety.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kidurong and Bintulu stations were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Upon arrival, they found the single-storey houses beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.

Firefighters brought the flames under control and conducted overhaul works to prevent any risk of reignition before wrapping up the operation at 6.25 am yesterday (June 1).

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
