KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) Gawai Dayak Open House 2025 will be held on June 7 at Rumah Veriland, Engkeranji, Layar, Betong.
A highlight is a special Gawai-Kaamatan Concert, which will bring together cultural performances from both Sarawak and Sabah — a celebration of the rich heritage of the Dayak and Kadazan-Dusun communities, symbolising regional unity and showcasing the diversity of Borneo’s indigenous traditions.
“Throughout the event, guests will be treated to traditional dances, cultural games, local culinary delights, and handicraft exhibitions, all rooted in authenticity and community spirit,” said STF president, Audry Wan Ullok.
“The open house aims to create a memorable and immersive experience not only for cultural enthusiasts but also for families, youth, and tourists who seek to discover the heart and soul of Sarawak,” she said.
This year’s event will feature glamping accommodation, offering visitors a unique experience of comfort close to nature while encouraging longer stays in Betong.
At a press conference to announce the event Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (Youth & Sports), Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu emphasised the importance of promoting cultural heritage as part of Sarawak’s broader tourism development strategy.
“Gawai Dayak is not only a significant celebration for the Dayak community but also a showcase of Sarawak’s multicultural identity. By supporting events like this, we foster unity and economic growth through rural and cultural tourism,” he said.
Audry, meanwhile, expressed appreciation to the many partners involved in making the event possible.
“It is our great pleasure to host this meaningful and colourful cultural event. On behalf of STF, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the ministries, Betong Resident and District Offices, and our tourism partners for their unwavering support,” she said..
