BETONG: The Gawai Dayak Parade can be a platform for the people to get to know the culture of the native community, especially in terms of clothing.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said this on the sidelines of the Betong Division Gawai Dayak Parade this year.
He said it is not only an opportunity to strengthen ties between the leaders and the people but also to know the Dayak people more closely.
“Especially in terms of their traditional clothes. If we look at all those present wearing various costumes, it demonstrates the identity of the Dayak race.”
He hoped that events like this continue to be held in the future.
Mohamad congratulated the contingent from SMK Saribas who won the overall title at the parade.
“Congratulations also to the Saratok District representative who managed to get third place in Category C which is Saratok Sixth Form College,” he added.
Also present were former Deputy Chief Minister who is also Sarawak Research Adviser Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang and his wife, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Empiang Jabu, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and local representatives.
