KUCHING: Sarawak must be prepared early for the wave of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology development by strengthening skills mastery among educators and children.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, who is the Santubong Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the increasing global use of such technologies must be managed effectively to ensure the present generation is not left behind in acquiring digital skills more broadly.

“We must start learning quickly. The gap will only grow wider if we are not prepared from now. Therefore, our children need exposure so they can compete in the job market and in the future world.

“Digital development can be seen happening rapidly not only in our country but also across the world. We cannot escape from such technologies today, people are already talking about ChatGPT, LLM, Google and so forth,” she said.

She said this when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Digital MADANI Education Leaders’ Retreat for Selected Sarawak Schools at the Aminuddin Baki Institute, Sarawak Branch, here today.

In the same context, she urged leaders, particularly educators, to shoulder the responsibility of becoming good role models in technological expertise for the younger generation.

“You are the leaders who will empower teachers and students to master technology, while also ensuring the digital education ecosystem grows in a healthy, inclusive and sustainable manner.

“This transformation can only be achieved through close cooperation from all parties,” she said.

Commenting on the retreat, Nancy emphasised that it demonstrated the strong commitment of all parties involved in advancing the digital education agenda in Sarawak.

She also said that organising the programme was not an easy task, given it was conducted continuously over four days.
